I recently attended a conference where I was asked to read/perform some poetry. I have have done this a handful of times, but nothing too serious. I don't consider myself a spoken word artist. I don't think I have the right style for it.
Pretty much, I write what I feel. I do that in the blog and also what I write for poems. Since I don't write (poems) very often, I had to create some work that would be appropriate for this event. And I was incredibly nervous. In general, my confidence is not what it used to be.
But after i performed, I received great feedback. Some I moved to tears. Other just liked how I wrote from the heart. And many urged me to write more. I admit, it's def nice to know people liked my work. I mean, who doesn't like to be appreciated? So perhaps this will be a nice push to urge me to write again/more. If anything, this is a positive reinforcement of what I already knew.
I just love to write and express myself.
It's just good to know someone listens.
